This collection provides the history of textile education and the construction of the textile education building (named for industrialist and philanthropist Aaron S. French) at Georgia Tech through articles, architectural drawings, and documents related to the construction. The French textile building, designed and constructed by Lockwood, Greene & Co. of Boston, Mass., was completed and the textile school opened in 1899. The site include access to the original specifications and drawings dated 1898, historical sketches of the textile education program, the philanthropist French, the rise of the textile industry in the South, the firm of Lockwood, Greene & Co., and sources referred to in the histories
