Historical Sketch

Mrs. Jeannette Harvey Hamme is a native of Atlanta, daughter of Mr. Burwell T. Harvey a Morehouse College Professor of Chemistry and Physics in 1916 and Director of Athletics until August 31, 1957. Mrs. Jeanette Harvey Hamme was married to Mr. Richard S. Hamme from North Caroline who passed way July 5, 1979.

The collection contains: Three (3) photo albums of Mrs. Hamme's family life; Mrs. Hamme's personal correspondence and other papers she collected over the years which includes flyers, newsletters, news article, books and pamphlets; Morris Brown College papers and other related items; Mrs. Hamme's collection of papers from the Friendship Baptist Church as Deaconess Board member and some papers from Westhills Presbyterian Church; Mrs. Hamme's father, Mr. Burwell T. The Auburn Avenue Research Library, Archives Division received Mrs. Jeanette Harvey Hamme's papers as a gift from Mrs. Alice Holmes Washington and was forwarded to the Archives through Mrs. Julie V. Hunter.

This collection is available for use only on the second floor (Archives Division) of the Auburn Avenue Research Library. There are no restrictions on research use of the collection, but permission must be obtained for reproductions of materials for which the Research Library does not hold copyright to researcher only for "Fair Use" as defined in the copyright law (Title 17, United States Code).
