Description Gainesville, April 6, 1936. Destruction and debris caused by a tornado that struck the city. Over 100 people were killed, hundreds were injured, and the property damage was in the millions.
Additional Information 2003/06/18: The tornado that struck on April 6, 1936 is considered one of the worst in American history, in terms of casualties and property damage. The business shown in this photograph is probably Whitfield's "Ladies Ready to Wear" located on West Spring Street.
