Description Gainesville, April 6, 1936. View of part of the public square after a tornado had struck the city early in the morning as many people were on their way to work. Note the debris caused by the tornado, the automobiles and trucks, and some of the buildings in the background that appear to be on fire.
Additional Information 2003/06/18: The tornado that struck on April 6, 1936 is considered one of the worst in American history, in terms of casualties and property damage.
