Aerial view of the construction of the Donald W. Bain at the J.A. Jones Construction Company shipyard in Brunswick, Georgia taken from the bow. Ladders are visible alongside the top levels of the ship. Scaffolding is visible on either side of the ship. Workers can be seen on the top of ship, inside the scaffolding at the stern, on the walkways, and on the dock below. There is an obstruction or burned-out spot at the lower left-hand corner of the photograph. Named for former North Carolina treasurer Donald W. Bain (d. 1892), the ship was the forty-first constructed in Brunswick by the J.A. Jones Construction Company. Its keel was laid April 17, 1944. The ship was launched May 25, 1944 and delivered June 17, 1944.
