| Description: | Aerial view of the construction of the Alexander S. Clay at the J.A. Jones Construction Company shipyard in Brunswick, Georgia taken from near the ship's bow. Walkways, ladders and scaffolding have been built around the ship. Workers are visible on the top and along the sides of the ship, as well as on the docks below. Workers are queued up in several lines at the bottom of the photograph. Named for U.S. senator for Georgia Alexander Stephens Clay (1853-1910), the Alexander S. Clay was the forty-fifth ship built by the J.A. Jones Construction Company in Brunswick, Georgia. Its keel was laid May 15, 1944. The ship was launched June 30, 1944 and delivered July 15, 1944.
