| Description: | The John A. Campbell, assisted by a tugboat, just after being launched from the shipyard of the J A. Jones Construction Company in Brunswick, Georgia; a third boat is also visible. Named for Georgia-born, U.S. Supreme Court Justice John Archibald Campbell (1811-1889), the ship was the eighth constructed in Brunswick by the J.A. Jones Construction Company. Its keel was laid April 13, 1943. The ship was launched August 14, 1943 and delivered August 31, 1943. Original photograph scanned by the Brunswick-Glynn County Library.
