author: Stephenson, Matthew F.
extent: p.
date: November 12, 1862
summary: Letter written by Dr. Matthew Fleming Stephenson, dated November 12, 1862. Stephenson asks for a simple charter of incorporation for the Dahlonega Gold Company, explaining that the company has become disorganized since half the stock is now under sequestration and held in the North. Stephenson communicates his eagerness to work the mine as soon as possible and says he will send a blank charter in a few days. He relates news about the health of family and friends and notes that efforts are being made to get clothes for the soldiers fighting the Civil War. Stephenson worries that the soldiers will not be comfortable because it is difficult to procure wool.

You will confer a particular favor on me as well as on the community by obtaining a Simple Charter of Incorporation for the Dahlonega Gold Company. It has become disorganized by one half the stock being held in the North and now under sequestration As soon as it is sold I want to work it. I will send you the blank Charter in a few days.
Your families are well -- Mr. M. Sitton is not improving but Ben. who is here is gaining rapidly -- The Negro Boy you sent up has had an attack of Typhoid pneumonia but is nearly well -- [unclear text: Jes] Quillian has arrived not verry [very] well -- Miller Huff has got back -- has been prisoner & paroled -- We are canvassing the county to keep stills down and raise clothes for the soldiers

but owing to the difficulty in getting wool it will be impossible to make them as comfortable as we could wish.

give my respects to my freinds [friends] and accept of our prayers for your welfare.
