Letter: Columbus, Georgia to Colonel Wier Boyd, [Dahlonega, Georgia], 1868 Feb. 27

author: Dexter, Amory, 1829-1887
extent: [1] p.
date: February 27, 1868
summary: Letter from Amory Dexter, civil engineer and one-time agent of the Yahoola River and Cane Creek Hydraulic Hose Mining Company, to Colonel Wier Boyd, dated February 27, 1868. Dexter affirms that he is glad Boyd has closed with Mr. Oates and rented to him for the season. He assumes that Mr. Peck has paid for equal interest in a joint deed with Oates. Dexter advises Boyd to immediately collect payment for his office furniture if he has sold it to Nathan H. Hand or Peck. He requests that Boyd retain the funds until he comes to Dahlonega in May, but invites Boyd to use the funds in the meantime. Dexter closes with the request that Boyd return the Murray County land to the tax assessor for taxes and have the deed recorded.

Wier [Wier] Boyd. Esq. [Esquire]
Dear Sir.

I am in receipt of your favor 20th & am glad to notice you have closed with Mr. Oates & as you say think it is a very good trade -- I am glad you rented to him for the season -- I see you have taken a joint deed & expect by that Mr Peck has paid you $90. which I wrote him he could do if he wished to have an equal interest.

Did Mr. Hand or Mr. Peck decide to take my office furniture at $40. -- ? If so please collect the amt. [amount] for me whilst money is abundant.

If you sell any article or collect funds for me please retain till I go up to Dah. [Dahlonega] as I wish to use the amt. [amount] there for expenses. You are welcome to use the funds yourself in the meantime.

We expect to go to Dah. [Dahlonega] 1st of May & at that time we can straighten out our affair -- Please return to Tax assessor the following property for 1868 & oblige

Your Friend truly
[Signed] Amory Dexter.
