Abstract: The collection consists of business records of Charles Henry Douglass from 1906-1967. The records include account books and correspondence of the Middle Georgia Savings and Investment Company (1921-1933), a grille/cafe/soda fountain (1919-1946), the Colonial Hotel (1921-1967), liquor store beer/parlor/wine shop (1937-1946), pool room, and the Douglass Theatre Complex (bulk 1920-1929). Of particular interest in the Theatre records are correspondence, contracts, and handbills for boxing matches; booking correspondence, contracts, and handbills for motion picture exhibitions; and booking sheets, contracts, correspondence, and handbills regarding performing artists. The collection also contains a small amount of material relating to Douglass' ownership of the vaudeville company, Florida Blossoms Big Comedy and Minstrel Show (ca. 1906-1912).

Charles Henry Douglass (1870-1940), African American Macon, Georgia businessman and banker. Owned the Colonial Hotel and Douglass Theatre Complex which exclusively served the needs of African American customers.

The collection consists of business records of Charles Henry Douglass from 1906-1967. The records include account books and correspondence of the Middle Georgia Savings and Investment Company (1921-1933), a grille/cafe/soda fountain (1919-1946), the Colonial Hotel (1921-1967), liquor store beer/parlor/wine shop (1937-1946), pool room, and the Douglass Theatre Complex (bulk 1920-1929). Of particular interest in the Theatre records are correspondence, contracts, and handbills for boxing matches; booking correspondence, contracts, and handbills for motion picture exhibitions; and booking sheets, contracts, correspondence, and handbills regarding performing artists.
