Abstract: The
collection consists of business records of Charles Henry Douglass from
1906-1967. The records include account books and correspondence of the Middle
Georgia Savings and Investment Company (1921-1933), a grille/cafe/soda fountain
(1919-1946), the Colonial Hotel (1921-1967), liquor store beer/parlor/wine shop
(1937-1946), pool room, and the Douglass Theatre Complex (bulk 1920-1929). Of
particular interest in the Theatre records are correspondence, contracts, and
handbills for boxing matches; booking correspondence, contracts, and handbills
for motion picture exhibitions; and booking sheets, contracts, correspondence,
and handbills regarding performing artists. The collection also contains a
small amount of material relating to Douglass' ownership of the vaudeville
company, Florida Blossoms Big Comedy and Minstrel Show (ca.
1906-1912).
