Inventory of the Georgia State Fair Records

Abstract: The collection consists of records of the Georgia State Fair and its predecessor, the Georgia State Exposition, from 1875-1991. The records include account books (1910-1945), advertising posters, contracts and agreements (1923-1962), correspondence (1912-1975, with gaps), employee records (1921-1974, with gaps), exhibit files (1935-1970, with gaps), financial statements (1914-1980), invoices and receipts (1921-1947), mailing lists (1934-1945), minutes (1909-1921, 1940-1942), clippings, photographs, premium lists/catalogs (1906-1991, with gaps), press releases (1936-1943), programs, and scrapbooks (1934-1983, with gaps). The materials document the role of the Macon Chamber of Commerce and the Macon Exchange Club in planning and preparing for the fair; the administration of the fair including ticket sales, publicity, and exhibits; and finances.
