Description: Georgia author Augusta Jane Evans writes her cousin, Georgia Supreme Court judge, Muscogee County representative at the 1861 Georgia State Convention, and Confederate general Henry Lewis Benning, in a letter dated January 13, 1861 about a pro-Union memorial to be presented at the January 16, 1861 state convention that she has been asked to sign. Evans indicates that she does not wish to be associated with the memorial at all.
