Title: Letter: Columbus, Georgia to Colonel Wier Boyd, Dahlonega, [Georgia], 1868 Jan. 25
Date: 1868 Jan. 25
Description: Letter from Amory Dexter, civil engineer and one-time agent of the Yahoola River and Cane Creek Hydraulic Hose Mining Company, to Colonel Wier Boyd, dated January 25, 1868. Dexter advises against Peck's suggestion that they sell the engine separately from the saw mill. He also does not want Peck to haul the engine to Atlanta before it is sold with the expectation that some new company will buy it in the spring. Dexter assures Boyd that he trusts his decisions and authorizes him to sell the equipment without further consultation, even if they have to sell at a loss. He clarifies that his interest is larger than Peck's. Dexter thinks it will be difficult to sell the timber carts and suggests a potential buyer for one. He advises Boyd to keep the mule as long as he finds it useful, but suggests that they sell it at plowing time. Dexter directs Boyd to help Mr. Kilgo collect money from F. M. Williams, explaining that he thinks Williams will pay if he fears a lawsuit. He inquires about the harness and wagons and asks if Boyd has received everything from Peck. Dexter concludes by directing Boyd to receive and to keep the proceeds of the sale on his behalf and offers him power of attorney as needed.
