| Title: | Letter: Chicago, Illinois to William M. Smith, Macon, Georgia, 1927 Sept. 30 |
| Date: | 1927 Sept. 30 |
| Description: | Letter from Oscar Micheaux, seminal African American film director, producer, and president of the Micheaux Film Corporation, to Smith ( probably William M. Smith, manager of the Douglass Theatre) dated September 30, 1927, negotiating terms for film rental. The letter responds to Smith's counteroffer of seventy-five dollars to rent The Millionaire (see dbr028 of the Douglass Theatre Web site). Micheaux rejects Smith's offer of seventy-five dollars for The Millionaire and says he is ordering the advertising paper sent to Smith at half-price. Micheaux asserts that the picture is worth more than they are charging and hopes that the matter is closed. Document ID: dbr029. Digital image and encoded transcription of an original manuscript, scanned, transcribed and encoded by the Digital Library of Georgia in 2005, as part of Georgia HomePLACE. This project is supported with federal LSTA funds administered by the Institute of Museum and Library Services through the Georgia Public Library Service, a unit of the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia. |
