| Title: | Davis House (Monroe, Ga.) Davis-Edwards House (Monroe, Ga.) Edwards House (Monroe, Ga.) |
| Date: | 1980 May |
| Description: | Located at: 238 North Broad Street, Monroe, Ga. Two-story wood frame Transitional Federal house featuring an entrance portico with a balcony. The four square Doric inspired columns supporting the pediment of the balcony are stacked on top of the columns supporting the balcony. Balcony and ground level entrances have double doors with sidelights and transom. Balcony sidelights and transom have been painted to mimic etching. A single story porch is visible on the back of the house. Josiah A. Clark, builder, began construction on the house, but sold it unfinished to Charles A. Davis before it was completed. The First story of the porch was extended and the extra pediment added between the first and second stories of the porch around 1880. Various rooms were added between 1880 and 1930. It has been restored to its original form. For more information see Linley, John. The Georgia Catalog: Historic American Buildings Survey. Athens, Ga.: University of Georgia Press, c1982, p. 315.
