Creator: Cobb, Marion, 1822-1897
Title: Letter: [Athens, Georgia] to Callie King, [1856]
Date: 1856
Description: Undated letter from 1856 from Marion Lumpkin Cobb, wife of Thomas Read Rootes Cobb and daughter of Joseph Henry Lumpkin, to Callie King, wife of Porter King and Marion's sister about the death of their sister Lucy Gerdine and the illness that has afflicted so many of their friends, family, and neighbors. Gerdine died in 1856. Cobb declines King's invitation to visit because of this rampant illness, but hopes to come soon. She spends some time discussing the plans of Mrs. Manley, a nurse going to stay with King, perhaps for a confinement, and closes the letter by touching on domestic affairs.
