Description: This letter, possibly dated March 10, 1854, written by Porter King, lawyer, future judge and Perry County representative to the Alabama legislature, to his wife Callie King, daughter of Joseph Henry Lumpkin, deals with several items. First, King requests that Callie should choose a plot of land. He presents her a grid of the land. In his second order of business, King explains to his wife that he has been called to attend a council meeting that night. He tells Callie that if she decides to come to town to spend the night with him, to bring him a clean shirt for the morning. He also says he is sending her a present of cologne.
