Description: From Marion Alabama, Porter King, lawyer, future judge and Perry County representative to the Alabama legislature, writes a letter dated October 12, 1855 to his wife Callie King, daughter of Joseph Henry Lumpkin, who is in Athens, Georgia. In it, King tells his wife he is excited over their upcoming reunion and also very anxious to see their infant son. King, as he informs his wife, has made some modifications at home. He had Callie's room painted and had a pebble walk installed in their yard. He also tells Callie that everyone there misses her. Along with other local news, Rufus Reid, King reports, is headed to Selma to reunite with his wife.
