Title: Letter: North Hamptons, [Georgia] to Callie [Lumpkin King], Montgomery, [Alabama], 1851 Dec. 29
Date: 1851 Dec. 29
Description: James Lumpkin writes a letter dated December 29, 1851 to his sister Callie Lumpkin, daughter of Joseph Henry Lumpkin and future wife of Porter King, expressing how much he loves to receive letters from her and how much he misses her. He says he is glad she is enjoying Montgomery, Alabama. James gives her advice on courtship. He tells her not to rush into anything because she will probably be courted five or more times while in Montgomery. She is currently being pursued by Porter King and Bob [Goree]. James confides in Callie his love for Miss Anna [Camak?] and asks her not to tell anyone. He also informs her of his activities with Tom Screven while in Savannah where he saw some members of the Georgia Senate. Tom Screven is also visiting the Barnards in North Hampton, Georgia, while James is there. He tells Callie to come home by January 16, 1852 because he cannot bear to be at home without her there.
