Description: The collection consists of letters Thomas Woodham wrote to his wife in Richland, Georgia during the Civil War. As his company traveled through Virginia, Woodham camped in Petersburg, Stanton, Gordonville, Lynchburg, and Winchester. The letters describe the hardships the soldiers were enduring, sickness, battles nearby, concerns for his wife and children (Etta, Emma), and his strong desire to come home. The letters begin May 25, 1862 and end October 30, 1862. He was killed on December 13, 1862 in Fredericksburg, Virginia. There is also a group of financial papers mainly concerning Nancy Caroline Woodham and the Lundsford family. These papers include promissory notes, receipts, and indentures dated 1840-1881.

Thomas Augustus Woodham was in Company E, 31st Regiment, Georgia Volunteer Infantry. In 1859 he married Nancy Caroline Lunsford (b. 1837) and they lived in Stewart County, Georgia.
