Description: This collection consists of letters from Frances Lee Higginson to his father pertaining to the destruction and burning of Darien, Georgia during the Civil War.

Francis Lee Higginson (1841-1925) enlisted in the 54th Massachusetts USCT. He was appointed 2nd Lieutenant on February 28, 1863. On January 30, 1864, he was appointed Captain of the 5th Massachusetts USCT. His official records show him as being absent May 5, 1865.

America's Turning Point: Documenting the Civil War Experience in Georgia received support from a Digitizing Historical Records grant awarded to the Atlanta History Center, Georgia Historical Society, Hargrett Rare Book and Manuscript Library, and the Digital Library of Georgia by the National Historical Publications and Records Commission.
