|Title:||Election ballot from Confederate Presidential election, 1861|
|Description:||This collection consists of an electoral ticket from the Confederate Presidential Election listing Jefferson Davis for President and Alexander H. Stevens for Vice President. On the back is the signature of an unknown man, John Leach.|
The Confederate States of America formed when the Southern states seceded from the Union and in doing so initiated the Civil War. The only person to hold the Confederate Presidential office was Jefferson Davis, who was President from February 18, 1861, to May 5, 1865, his Vice President being Alexander Hamilton Stephens.
America's Turning Point: Documenting the Civil War Experience in Georgia received support from a Digitizing Historical Records grant awarded to the Atlanta History Center, Georgia Historical Society, Hargrett Rare Book and Manuscript Library, and the Digital Library of Georgia by the National Historical Publications and Records Commission.
