Date: 1782 Dec. 28
Description: Letter enclosing a talk given by the Fat King dated December 28, 1782 from James Rae, Augusta to John Martin Esquire, Savannah, Georgia. Rae wants instructions from Martin for the planned meeting with the Fat King of the Cussetaws (Cusseta Creek Indians ?), the Tallasee King, and others concerning the exchange of property that is to take place. The Fat King's talk refers to communications with Mr. Galphin and the Virginia King (George Washington ?), and he emphasizes the Creeks' desire for peace and friendship with whites. He mentions that his people are poor and in need of goods, and also that two headmen of the Cowetaws (Coweta Creek Indians ?) plan to comply with the property exchange.
