| Title: | Letter, 1816 Sept. 13, Fort George, [Chatham County], Georgia [to] David B. Mitchel[l], Governor of Georgia, Milledgeville / L. Kingsley |
| Date: | 1816 Sept. 13 |
| Description: | This is a letter from L. Kingsley from Fort George (Chatham County, Georgia) to David B. Mitchell, Governor of Georgia (1809-1813, 1815-1817), dated September 13, 1816. Kingsley informs the governor that a number of his slaves had been taken by the Indians and having recently received information that the so-called Negro Fort at Apalachicola Bay (Florida) had been captured, he requests information on the recovery of his property. He refers to a recent unnamed treaty negotiated by General Pinckney which promised to restore property plundered by either the Spanish or the Indians. Kingsley indicates his willingness to make financial compensation to the captors for the return of his slaves. Document ID: tcc442.
