Description: This is a letter dated October 7, 1841 from Captain James A. Sweat to Governor Charles J. McDonald (Governor of Georgia, 1839-1843) stating that signs of Indians have been found in several places around the Okefenokee Swamp and that those signs have caused considerable alarm amongst the inhabitants of the area. Sweat goes on to say that, per the governor's instructions in a letter dated September 14, 1841, he has called out his company to protect the citizens of the area, and he requests further instructions from the governor.
