| Title: | [Letter] 1832 Jan. 30, Bryan County, Geo[rgia], [to] Wilson Lumpkin, [Governor of Georgia], Milledgeville, Geo[rgia] / Major Geo[rge] M. Waters |
| Date: | 1832 Jan. 30 |
| Description: | This is a letter dated January 30, 1832 from George M. Waters to Wilson Lumpkin, Governor of Georgia (1831-1835), echoing an earlier letter to General John Coffee (tcc700). Waters asserts that several individuals, including John Hamilton, Andrew Hamilton, Zachariah Slayton, Philip Coleman, Clinton Webb, Mr. Green, and John Miller, unlawfully cleared and cultivated his land along the Chattahoochee River. Waters claims this land as a Cherokee descendant, which some of the above individuals disputed in their own legal claims (tcc701). Waters states that the unlawful intrusion has limited the number of acres that he himself is able to cultivate. He therefore asks the governor to have these individuals removed from his property. Another letter related to this dispute is tcc704. Document ID: tcc703.
