Title: Meadow Garden, Washington Headquarters when near Augusta, Ga.

Description: Postcard image, circa 1900, of early American farmhouse with sloping gable roof and three dormer windows. Located at 1320 Independence Street in Augusta, Georgia, Meadow Garden served as the primary residence for George Walton from 1792 until his death in 1804. In addition to being one of three Georgia signatories of the Declaration of Independence, Walton served Georgia as a delegate to the Second Continental Congress, as a United States senator, chief justice, and was elected as governor twice. Since 1901, Meadow Garden has operated as a house museum under the ownership of the Augusta chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
