Nathan Deal was born in Millen, Georgia on August 25, 1942, attending Mercer University Walter F. George School of Law. He was first elected to Congress in November 1992 as a Democrat and switched to the Republicans in April 1995, four months into his second term. Deal won his first full term as a Republican in 1996 by a large margin. In 2010, he campaigned and was elected Governor of Georgia over Roy Barnes.
