Description: Biographical information, photographic image, abstract of oral history interview, and selected audio clips of Gretta Moll DeWald, Eastman, Ga. school teacher, churchwoman, and active Democratic Party political campaigner at the local, state, and national level. She helped to organize Democratic Women of DeKalb and was president of the Democratic Party of DeKalb County in the late 1960s. She worked on Jimmy Carter's gubernatorial and presidential campaigns, was a Georgia delegate to the Democratic National Convention in Miami in 1972, and after Carter's inauguration as President of the United States, she served as Chair of the Women's Division of the Democratic National Committee, where ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment was an important issue. In 1980, Dewald returned to Georgia to work for DeKalb County's CEO, Manuel Maloof, as the Executive Assistant/Chief of Staff, and also was active in the League of Women Voters and the Democratic Women of DeKalb, working especially to ratify the ERA in Georgia. In 1989, she organized the DeKalb County pretrial release program and managed it until her retirement in 1994. The audio clip discusses the relationship of younger women to feminism
