Description: Biographical information, photographic image, abstract of oral history interview, and selected audio clips of Nellie D. Duke, political and social activist, who worked for the ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment in Georgia in the late 1970s and early 1980s, has championed women's rights and issues through a variety of organizations, and was an active member of the Democratic Party at the state and local levels. She helped found two women's groups, the West Georgia Women's Forum and the Georgia Women's Alliance, served as Chief Executive Officer of the Georgia Commission on Women and the Georgia Woman of the Year Committee, Inc., was chair of the Georgia Stakeholders Task Force of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and the Task Force on Violence and Abuse in Carroll County, serves on numerous advisory boards and committees of women's and political rights groups, and was a member of the State Committee of the Democratic Party and vice chair of the Carroll County Democratic Executive Committee.
