Sellers is best known for her poems about life in southern Appalachia. After earning a B.A. from LaGrange College in 1958 and an M.A. from the University of Georgia in 1966, she accepted a position as professor of English at Young Harris College. After thirty-two years of service to the college, Sellers retired in 1997. In 1992 she was named Poet of the Year by the American Pen Women, and in 1997 Governor Zell Miller named her Poet Laureate of Georgia, a position she held for three years.
