<dc:description>Burke County, 1949. Close-up of the outside of one of the structures on Bellevue Plantation. Bellevue, located south of Waynesboro and just west of U.S. Highway 25 has been owned by members of the Carswell family since 1835. The damage seen above the door took place during the Civil War. During the Civil War a rear guard action occurred here between the Union and Confederate cavalry. Several holes made by bullets remain today although the home was not burned.</dc:description>
