Indians of North America--Claims against Legal order dated June 15, 1797 from (James ?) Meriwether to Lieutenant Robert Montgomery in response to proposals and petitions sent by citizens of Franklin and Jackson Counties, Georgia. The citizens claim that the Indians are committing crimes against them, and they want to set up a guard for protection. The legislature grants this request, putting Montgomery in charge of the organization effort and agreeing to supply rations for his militia. Document ID: tcc127.
