<dc:description>Letter from General James Jackson dated April 4, 1788, Savannah to James Meriwether, Augusta. Jackson encloses a letter he received from William Cone dated March 28, 1788, and an extract of a letter from Colonel Maxwell dated March 29, 1788. The letters tell of a skirmish between Indians and Captain Lewis and his men at Shepard's Plantation. Lewis's men injured two Indians and killed one. Also, settlers are alarmed because a man named Pelcher was killed and his brother wounded, purportedly by Indians. It is feared that the Indian attacks will cause the settlers to vacate Glynn County.</dc:description>
