<dc:description>Letter dated June 14, 1815 from Alexander J. Dallas, Secretary of War to the governor of Georgia (probably Peter Early, 1813-1815) notifying him of measures taken by U. S. President James Madison to restore peace with Indians who were allied with the British during the War of 1812. Dallas indicates that he has enclosed a copy of instructions given by the federal government to the commissioners appointed to treat with the Northwest Indian nations in order to illustrate the President's policies towards these nations since the Treaty of Ghent (1814). The governor is also informed that militia troops may be required to assist federal troops in the event of Indian aggression. The document originally enclosed in this letter is tcc436 of the Southeastern Native American Documents Database.</dc:description>
