Militia This is a letter dated February 4, 1836 from Colonel W. M. Benton to Governor William Schley (Governor of Georgia, 1835-1837) in which Benton pledges both himself and his staff to any regiment in the Georgia Militia that needs men for the fight against unnamed Indians (most likely Seminoles) in either Florida or Alabama. A note on the wrapper indicates that the letter writer's name is Warren R. Benton; however, this does not appear to correspond to his signature. Document ID: tcc551.
