<dc:description>This is a letter dated October 11, 1841 from Captain James A. Sweat to Governor Charles J. McDonald (Governor of Georgia, 1839-1843) informing the governor that, during a scout on the previous weekend, Sweat and his men found "considerable" signs of Indians near the Okefenokee Swamp. Sweat says that he was unable to follow the Indian trails that led into the swamp because he had too few men with him, but he vows to pursue them as soon as he has obtained suitable rations and supplies for his men (see Sweat's follow-up letter tcc632). Sweat goes on to complain that citizens in the area are reluctant to give the troops food on credit from the state government because it takes too long for them to receive reimbursement. He therefore asks the governor to advise him on the best way to procure these supplies.</dc:description>
