<dc:subject>Seminole War, 2nd, 1835-1842</dc:subject>
<dc:description>This is a letter from John Henry Eaton, former U. S. Secretary of War (1829-1831) and Governor of the Florida territory (1834-1836), to William Schley, Governor of Georgia (1835-1837), dated January 25, 1836. Eaton informs Schley of recent troop movements in the Florida territory associated with the Second Seminole War (1835-1842). He describes the composition of various forces, including a body of "friendly" Indians and troops under the command of General Duncan Clinch, and discusses Camp King (Florida) as a possible place for rendezvous. Eaton also discusses Tampa Bay as a source of supplies and provisions.</dc:description>
