| Description: |
Turn-of-the-twentieth century postcard image showing a paddle wheel steamboat on the Savannah River in Augusta, Georgia, with
a covered bridge in the background. The Savannah River played a critical role in the economic development and prosperity
of Augusta. Steamboats regularly transported cotton and other manufactured goods between Augusta and Savannah throughout
the nineteenth century. By the turn of the twentieth century, railroads replaced much of the steamboat travel in Augusta.
