Public Square, Area 3

Listed below are film clips showing the devastation of Gainesville's business district following the 1936 tornado disaster taken from in front of the offices of Dr. J. C. Morrison. Eyewitness accounts reported seeing two separate tornados converge before entering the south side of the business district and traveling east through the Public Square. Despite overwhelming destruction to the Public Square, the Atlanta Journal reported on Wednesday, April 8 that relief workers had cleared all of the major debris from the Public Square and were beginning work in residential districts.
