Public Square, Area 8

The film clip listed below shows relief crews working to remove debris from buildings along the South Main Street frontage, specifically McLellan's dime store and J.C. Penney. Nearly every building on the Public Square suffered extensive damage from the 1936 tornado; however, due to the magnanimous effort of thousands of relief workers, every store in the Public Square along South Main Street was able to reopen for business in the days and weeks following the great disaster.
