Abstract: Civil cases of the Troup
County Inferior court dating from 1829 to 1866. The bulk of the cases are
related to debt; however, prior to 1852, probate and equity suit cases are
present within the records.

Dating 1829-1866, Inferior court records are
arranged by term, two terms per year, and then alphabetically by type of
document. These records comprise a rather scattered and incomplete collection
of civil cases. The Inferior Court tried minor civil suits, generally
debt-related cases concerning small monetary sums. Prior to 1852, the court
also heard probate cases and an occasional equity suit. Many of the cases
originally filed with the Inferior Court were appealed to the Superior Court
and have been filed under "Appeals" in the Superior Court Records. The bound
volumes of the Inferior Court proceedings present a more complete record of the
Court's transactions than can be found in the loose papers.
